FAQ

What is bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)?

Bioidentical hormones are natural hormones extracted from plants like soy and yams, that have the identical chemical structure to hormones made in the human body. This is in contrast to synthetic hormones, which often do not have the same structure as hormones in the human body.

Bioidentical hormones can be used to treat many types of hormonal imbalances. It can help with symptoms of premenstural syndrome (PMS), peri-menopause (years leading up to menopause), menopause, and andropause (male menopause). It can also be used to treat problems of thyroid or adrenal gland imbalance. Since aging is accompanied by a drop in many hormones, bioidentical hormone replacement can improve quality of life and sense of wellbeing as people age.

Based on symptoms and blood hormone levels, a specific combination and dose of bioidentical hormones containing one or more hormones can be specifically formulated and individualized to each patient.

What is NAET?

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) is an acupuncture-based method, developed by Dr. Devi Nambudripad, for desensitizing the body towards allergens. It is a form of energy medicine that balances the body when there is a weakness because of a trigger. These triggers can be food items, emotions, clothing, environmental issues or even chemicals.

If you choose to receive NAET, then you may be treated with pressure on your back while holding a homeopathic sample. Depending on the case, you may also receive acupuncture or acupressure while in contact with the item. After that, you must avoid contacting the item for 25 hours.

NAET has been very effective in many conditions, often when western medicine provides limited options. For example, it has been shown to be effective in autism (see Research section for published randomized and controlled trial), chronic fatigue and pain syndromes, autoimmune conditions, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and food allergies.

If done properly, NAET has very limited and minimal side effects. You may experience drowsiness or fatigue after the first session especially if you never had acupuncture before. While very effective, NAET does require multiple treatments and some time in order to produce lasting results.

For patients interested in NAET, the initial consultation is a dedicated medical evaluation consisting of a history, physical, and possible blood tests. This consultation will determine if you have any health issues that need to be addressed prior to beginning NAET. It will also determine if you are a candidate for NAET. Blood tests or other imaging studies may be recommended at the initial visit. If blood tests are recommended, we can draw these in our office after the consultation. NAET treatments are only provided on visits as follow-up after the initial evaluation and testing.

Please refer to www.naet.com for further details on NAET.
